deborah-bryantThe mission of Mississippi Society for Disabilities (MSD) is to provide a broad spectrum of programs and services to meet the needs of children and adults with disabilities, thus enabling them to achieve maximum independence and gain the greatest possible quality of life. MSD is a 52 year old, 501(c)(3) organization formerly known as Easter Seals of Mississippi.

In our journey to decide how to best make use of our fundraising dollars, we surveyed local citizens and became aware that there is a lack of accessibility at parks throughout our area. Specifically, it is often impossible for a person with a mobility device such as a wheelchair to access playground areas because the surfacing is too difficult to navigate and the equipment is not accessible. MSD is currently working with the City of Madison to modify their playgrounds to include fully accessible, inclusive areas of play suitable for children of all abilities. Our hope is that in the future we can expand this program to other communities in the state of Mississippi. Your support of our organization will help us realize this goal.

In lieu of hosting our traditional ’Tis the Season Gala, Mississippi Society for Disabilities will be offering a series of sponsorship levels for lifetime recognition at our signature parks. ’Tis gala funds will also be donated to this terrific community development. Your family, including children, will be invited to an exclusive sponsorship party at Liberty Village Park upon completion, spring 2015.

All sponsors will receive a printed invitation with name recognition. Thank you for your consideration and continued support.

A Letter from the City of Madison:

Dear Friend,

bryant-hawkinsThe Mississippi Society for Disabilities says Believe in the Possibilities, and in Madison we do too. Through our partnership with this wonderful organization, we are bringing improved playgrounds that will allow all children and their parents to enjoy a great day at the park.

Madison has received a grant through the Mississippi Development Authority to create a universal, ADA-approved playground at Liberty Park and an updated playground at Strawberry Patch Park. Children of all ages and abilities will be able to access the playgrounds at both parks to have fun times.

The Mississippi Society for Disabilities continues to play an important role in bringing these playgrounds to Madison through its financial resources. I invite you to continue to support the organization that does so much for so many. Your contributions to the Mississippi Society for Disabilities will help defray the matching funds needed to build these playgrounds that will be enjoyed by so many in the metro Jackson area.

Please consider donating to the Mississippi Society for Disabilities so children and adults alike can not only believe in the possibilities, but see them in action.

Mary Hawkins Butler, Mayor
City of Madison, Mississippi
